Hello, this is Erik from Motion Workshop. Today I’ll show you how to live-stream Shadow
motion capture animation directly into the Unreal Engine using our free UE4 plugin. For this tutorial we’re running UE4 version
4.13. First, open the UE4 editor. Go to the plugins menu, and verify that the
Shadow Mocap plugin is enabled. We’re using a modified version of the free
Matinnee project from Epic. Because UE4 does not support real-time skeleton
retargeting, we re-skinned the Trooper character to the standard Shadow skeleton, then imported
the character back into the UE4 scene. Now we need to create a new animation blueprint. Right click on the content browser window,
go to animation, and select animation blueprint. Select the skeleton to use for the blueprint. Here we pick the skeleton used for our re-skinned
Trooper character. We’ll name this blueprint TrooperAnimBlueprint. Open the Animation Blueprint, and you’ll see
that the AnimGraph is empty. Now we’ll attach the Shadow live-stream animation
to the character’s output pose. Click and drag from the Final Animation Pose
result pin, and select Motion Capture, Apply Shadow Animation. This node is part of the Shadow Mocap plugin,
and will apply the live-streamed animation directly to the character’s pose in UE4. Now create an instance of the animation blueprint
in our scene. Drag the TrooperAnimBlueprint into the scene
and place him where you want. That’s it, now we’re ready to run the level. Click play to open a new play in editor window. You can see that the Shadow full body system
is now live-streaming animation into UE4. Again, this is Erik from Motion Workshop. Thanks for watching.

I'm assuming that the live-stream motion can be easily saved for binding to the asset or (better yet) automatically bound to the asset, so when connected to a controller, that animation plays. Is this a correct? Also, if the saved motion is bound to an NPC, then that NPC would act out the action within the collision constraints of scene?

Awesome. One question, is necessary to buy shadow software for this mocap process in unreal engine? or only with acquiring the hardware is enough?

Can this capture animations that fit the ue4 skeleton? If it can be made to output the same skeleton as ue4 I will buy it. if it can't be rigged to the ue4 skeleton you need to make mapping a new skeleton. everyone wants to use the same bones as ue4's characters.
