Hello Guys
Welcome to the Mikrotik Indonesia Youtube Channel at this time we will discuss how to backup configuration on RouterOS Mikrotik we as network admins should have backups of our router configurations so that when you want to add a new configuration and instead makes the router error we can restore to the previous configuration or for example we will replace our router device with a new one we don’t need to configure it from the start Curious as to how the details? still watch the video this time and don’t forget for those of you who haven’t subscribed yet please subscribe and also click the bell button so you get notifications for the latest videos from us to perform configuration storage on the Mikrotik routerOS There are 2 methods for backing up
the first is the Back Up Restore method so the partner of Back Up is Restore the Back Up method for the storage process then this Restore to apply the configuration then for the second method is Export Import Export is used to save our configuration and Import to apply the configuration that we have we will try the first method, Back Up Restore here I already have a hAP-AC Router You can get this router through our website which is citraweb.com let’s start the configuration for Back Up Restore the first is the remote first, our router I use the Winbox application to rememote this router on this router I have set the configuration for such an IP Address then others like IP Route also already exist then we will Back Up the way to Back Up is quite easy the way we enter the Files menu This method is already available as a button on the Winbox application so it’s quite easy on this files menu there is a Back Up button that we can click on in the Back Up menu display, there are parameters for the file name that we will save for example I will name backup-routerA then the next parameter for giving a password is not the password of the router that we configured not the user’s password for remote router but the password to open the backup file that we will save so when going to restore must enter the password first example here I will give a password The parameter below is the choice for encrypting our files to be randomized Here aes-sha256 and rc4 encryption options are available to choose from for those of you who don’t want to use a password here also provided the option to not use a password if we check the password parameters and encryption options can not be used and backing up files you don’t need a password when doing a restore in this example I will not use a password then I will click Backup and now a new file will appear with the name that we have specified earlier with the extension *. backup after successfully making a backup file This file is still stored in our router storage we can save this file to our PC by drag and drop if we use Windows OS we can do Drag And Drop, but if you use another OS you can download by right clicking on the file then clicking Download that’s the way to do configuration backups so tips from us for example you’ve done a backup don’t forget to save it on your PC so that later if your router occurs constraints that require reinstallation later files contained in the router storage will also be lost if you have backup files in separate storage then you can do a restore for example the backup file in my router is deleted, then I will enter the backup file from my PC and here will appear again to do a restore you can click the backup file and then click the restore button if you used a password, don’t forget to give the right password because I chose Don’t Encrypt so do not need a password and password parameters here I can close don’t forget if we don’t use a password, we must close this password parameter then we should just close it then we can click the restore button and this restore process requires a router to reboot so this router will reboot to apply the configuration in this backup file here the router is rebooting we wait until the router turns on again if the router is on we can do the remote back to our router here is the configuration again because we have done the restore so this restore process does not care about the initial conditions of a router Even if your router has a configuration, all configurations will be lost and change into a configuration that matches the backup file that we have like that was the way to do a backup-restore configuration on our routerOS so tips for doing this backup-restore the first one I have already said don’t forget to save the backup file on our PC don’t forget the password from our backup file too so when you want to restore you have to enter a certain password if you apply it then for those of you who often forget the username and password of the router that you set Also make sure you have a backup file for configuration that does not yet have a username and password so that later if there are obstacles and you forget the username and password you can do a reset and you can restore configuration backup files that don’t have a username and password at Mikrotik also provides backup file storage on the Mikrotik cloud server so on the Mikrotik File Server we have a slot to store our configuration backup files for detailed configuration, you can watch our previous video to watch the video you can check the link in the description below For this backup-restore method, we recommend that you do the same or identical router that’s for the backup-restore method but to do configuration backups on different types of routers You can use the second method we will discuss for this second method is export-import for this export-import method there is no special button on the winbox we have to do it through New Terminal so we have to use CLI (Command Line Interface) if we type the export command then enter by default it will display all the configurations that we do with this router so this is the display for the configuration that we do on this router if we just type the export command then the configuration isn’t saved in the file if we want to save into a file we type the command export file=then we name the file for example I will name backup-routerA then i enter if we type the export file command it will not display all the configurations that we do but the configuration will be saved in the file contained in the files menu here here has appeared a new file called backup-routerA file extension made here becomes * .rsc is different from the backup method if we do drag and drop this * rsc file we can open using the text editor application,
for example I will open using notepad then the file can still be read and we can change the configuration for example you can change the configuration and adjust the interface you are using for the needs of other types of routers you can adjust here but if we try to open the * .backup file earlier if we open it using a text editor application the contents will be randomized or encrypted we can’t edit it the advantage of the export method is that we can store the configuration in only certain menus example for example I will save the configuration in the IP Address menu only we first enter into the IP-Address menu then we do the export command if we only type the export command we will only see the configuration but if we want to save the configuration we add the command to export file=for example we will name the file the ip-address then the Files menu will appear a new file with the name ip-address.rsc we try to drag and drop again to open through the text editor application so we can edit this * .rsc file we can change the configuration by opening it through the text editor application we will try to change the interface that was originally br-LAN we will change to ether5 then we save this file then we delete the files in the router first then we upload the file that we edited if it’s already uploaded For this export-import method, don’t forget we have to delete our previous configuration because this export-import method doesn’t replace the old configuration but adds we see the old configuration we delete first in this router there is a configuration on the IP menu I delete then we will import the configuration with the command in the new terminal that is import file=* .rsc we will import the configuration file named ip-address.rsc if successful then the information will appear Successfully we will try to see that the IP menu has also appeared a new IP configuration with the interface that we changed before for the export-import process, the router does not reboot the device so it will only add configurations to the router then for the export-import method there are several options if we type the export command then we press Tab 2x then the command options will appear that is compact, there are files that we have used before then there is hide-sensitive, available and also verbose we will try one by one for this compact command has now become the standard command for export so for the previous version under routerOS v6rc1 or maybe v5 for the default configuration for example on the PPP VPN menu there is a Profiles menu there is a default configuration and also default-encryption so for the default configuration on the old routerOS version it will be saved as well but if you don’t want to save the default configuration like this you can add the compact command but for routerOS v6rc1 and above the default export command already applies the compact command without typing the compact command for example I will look at the PPP-profiles menu then I export and enter here will appear only the configuration that I have if we add the compact command the result will be the same because we use RouterOS v6.44 if you want to export that can display all the parameters that exist even though we can’t display what is not filled You can add verbose commands for example I will add a command like this “ppp profile export verbose” then all parameters that will be displayed along with the default configuration that’s the additional explanation for the compact and verbose commands then furthermore there is an additional hide-sensitive command hide-sensitive can be used when we have a user like the Secrets menu on the PPP-Secrets menu if we export then the password in the configuration will be seen The password parameters will also be exported and the password will also be visible if you don’t want to export the fields in the password parameter we can add a command to export that is hide-sensitive then the password parameters will be removed and the last additional command is “terse” for export commands by default it will be done per menu as seen this is only on the PPP-Secrets menu if for example you want to display this script in the order of settings or you want to write the complete settings from the beginning we can use the additional command for example I will type the command “ppp secrets export terse” so the written configuration will start from the beginning like this so this method makes it easy for you to copy paste a command so it’s complete written from the initial menu this is the configuration for the export-import method so I have told you how to export-import configuration the tips is that for export-import, make sure the router is empty because for the import process it will not replace the existing configuration but he will add a new configuration so it’s better when the router is still empty we can import the configuration like this video about the configuration backup process on Mikrotik routerOS You can choose which method is suitable my advice you should have both backup files backup files and the results of export must also have because for backup files we can use directly to the router itself for example you have the same or identical router then you can use the file then if you have different types of routers you can use backup results from export so later please do both methods do not forget to backup the configuration results stored on our PC okey guys, thanks for watching this video don’t forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe and also click
