Thank you, I bought the last MacBook and added the extra ram like you suggested in one of your previous videos and that is good enough for my editing. I have a desktop to stream games and do other data heavy work. I will not be paying that much for a new MacBook Pro, that’s too much, like you said it’s essentially the price of 2 MacBooks. Also, like you said…Who doesn’t use external drives in this day and age? They’re cheaper and easier to use while traveling.

The Apple Premium Tax. So glad I'm not a FC P X user or a MacOS user. Great specs upgrade for it but late to the game, the lack of an SD card is annoying, touchbar is neat but no proper 4K and touchscreen, also the ssd storage is stupid fast but like you said £3200 extra fast??😳.. hopefully they have actually fixed the keyboard

I don't fully get apple… I bought a laptop years ago for 500…. And it did its job but 2 years after that it started it's annoying but slow downwards spiral. I was like ''okay it's not a quality computer so that makes sense, it was only 500 euros…'' So I bought an imac for what? 1800? I should experience a huge difference in quality but it goes crazy every once in a while… You could say ''every computer has its issues'' But for that price point I expect at least 5 years normal usage before it starts a downwards spiral. It lags, the camera quits out of no where and only works again after restarting, files disappear, imovie libraries disappear,… For those issues I might as well have payed only 500…

I've never perceived Apple as being value. I've perceived them as being money for quality. But goddamn Apple! Lately your hardware quality, software quality, and design quality have been QUESTIONABLE as best! Not to mention your price points have been going up like crazy. Your engineers need to chill the hell out. Stop with all the gimmicky garbage, put in your products hardware and software that actually makes sense, and for the love of God fix those user experience issues. Macs used to have an amazing user experience, USED TO!

I buy a new MacBook Pro every year, as I am an open source code consultant I need to make sure its the fastest and highly reliable, but I have noticed the quality go down a bit over the years. This is probably the best MacBook Pro in a long time, however, this is the first one I am not going to buy. Why? Well because my MacBook Pro from earlier this year was terrible and had so many issues, so I also bought the iMac pro and it makes the MacBook Pro look like a kids toy. Ok, people may say, "the price difference", well it wasn't that much comparing the top end MacBook Pro vs entry level iMac pro, iMac pro wins hands down. Sure its not portable, but I do all the heavy lifting on the iMac pro and the easier stuff on the MacBook Pro. The external GPU looks interesting, but still not portable. Thanks for your thoughts Roberto, I hope mine were useful. Oh I have just seen you did an iMac pro review, how did I miss that?! Going to watch it now 🙂

    Question….

You said you used Premiere Pro, wouldn't you benefit more from something like a Razer Blade 2018? More ports, better price for the performance, and most importantly you would benefit greatly from graphic cards from Nvidia instead of cards from AMD.
    So why the MBP?

The only reason I can truly see to buy an underpowered machine for 7k vs building a powerhouse is if you absolutely NEED the environment. As a programmer I need the terminal and the unixy environment. Vid Editors, sound designers, 3D graphics artists and anyone else are basically wasting money. You could build a machine for 1500 that would make this MBP look like a pricey brick..

Other World Computing (OWC – macsales.com) has refurbished Macs for sale and offer great warranty service. A i7 quad-core 2012 MacBook Pro starts at $1,000. A i7 quad-core 2017 MacBook Pro maxes out at $2,500. Before Apple pursued thinness for the sake of thinness, I would have bought the bought base model and upgrade various components inside. You can still do that with some of the older MacBook Pro. Some of us would still like a built-in memory card reader.

Insane how Apple gets away with this kind of move. They always have gotten away with it. They always offered the worst value for money product wise. 1500-2000$ on a laptop from another brand such as ASUS for example will get you way more value for your money. Especially in this day and age where GPUs get more efficient and can fit is smaller footprints. I guess the question you need to ask yourself is: "Is it worth it to pay $5000 more just for Apple software and premium build quality?" Even if you are heavily integrated into the Apple ecosystem, it's probably more worth it to keep that 5 grand to yourself and put a bit of effort into learning about other software that isn't exclusive to Apple products.

I love MacOS, but I'm getting SUPER annoyed at the (d)evolution of the Apple business model. Ubuntu is really building up the software support, but as I learned from being Linux-only for 5 years, there's always that one critical piece of software that you're going to need "mainstream" support for.

I'm at the point where I think I'm just going to search eBay for a Macinstosh. Maybe I'll even put some upgrades into it 😜 The new Galaxy S9+ with Dex is REALLY intriguing me as a replacement desktop machine. Kinemaster would suffice for a faster editing workflow on my lower production cost videos. That leaves the lappy for doing the occasional heavy lifting on hero content.

I have a 2017 MBP 1TB, 16GB, 2.9GHz, I decided to jump to the i9/2TB/32GB since I do a bunch of engineering work, and not software engineering, that's not real engineering. This should be a nice boost and I can sell my old Dell T3500 if the 2018 MBP can hang. I'll have 14 days to give it a shot, and if I'm not feeling it I'll return it. I ended up going for the 2TB since I routinely run bootcamp from an external drive and don't feel like doing that anymore. Nice vid.

They should have lowered the figure in my opinion.

I work as a graphic designer and have been a windows user all my life. But as I start to get more work, travel more and go into in-person meeting with clients I found that presentation and looks does matter in these situations and that my 15" Predator gaming laptop cannot work in these environments, so I decided to get a MacBook Pro 15". However Apple offerings were underwhelming, to say the least. I hold off on getting the 2017 15" because at the time almost every Windows 15" laptops had already used 6 core CPUs and I couldn't justify paying for a Mac with outdated specs. So it's a really nice that Apple has refreshed their laptops to the new CPUs. With that said, I'm only getting the 15" with the i7 tho, because I don't see anyway the case for the laptop can cool the i9. Looking forward to your review Roberto! Love your contents

I wouldn't buy this product because a 1 acre property in my city cost 7k and I currently live in income based housing it wouldn't make much sense buying it. Another thing the only reason I would buy a mac book would be for nostalgia purposes. My school always used them. I love garage band. That being said I think Id be best off getting a used mac book or even just an Ipad.

So Apple have released this product that cannot perform to its full potential, due to the Macbook not able to cool the i9 CPU inside the chassis properly. It struggles to maintain the 2.9GHz base clock, let alone 3.8Ghz! Why release a ridiculously expensive product that is so 'high spec' and aimed at professionals, but unable to perform without that unacceptable level of thermal throttling? Why? Because Apple are ripping people off again! And people fall for it every time! F*** Apple.

$7,000 MacBook Pros, $1,000 iPhones … what's next? The tech doesn't seem to be increasing at the same rate, so how are these prices justified? Apple can only trade on their name and customer goodwill for so long, before folks start shopping elsewhere for equal (and in some cases far superior) quality at more affordable prices. For instance, the storage solution, as you mentioned, can be easily resolved by spending just $200 on external HDDs.

Don't get the core i9 variant in the 2018 MBP 15 inch. It thermal throttles heavily under any significant load it's just not cooled properly in the small thin form factor. The 2.2 ghz i7 8750H or the i7 2.6 ghz 8850H seem to perform much better from recent tests when it comes down to thermal management.

I just went with the 2007 13 inch i7 3.5 GHz and 1TB, I don’t think the tech is there for the i9 variant and the throttling was something that was highly anticipated and recently validated on other channels.

The only thing that bothers is me is when they Mickey-Mouse-ify good tools like Pages 09 that are now practically unusable for the intermediate purposes it was previously so good for.

Does this guy not understand that PCIE SSD Flash storage is like $1,000 per TB…?? Waving a few external drives around and comparing prices is kind of silly especially since they aren't even in the same league as a PCIE SSD… The people who know and understand the difference will pay for that additional speed.

Please Roberto, do some research on the benefits of PCIE SSD storage and how much added performance you get out of having a SSD run directly off the PCIe Bus… Please educate yourself on the speed and performance difference between a SSD that's limited by a USB BUS… With that being said, this is without a doubt an expensive machine.

What configuration are leaning towards? I am still deciding between the i7 2.6 and 2.9 with 32 gb and 512gb.

As someone who got the Macbook Pro 13" w/maxed out specs only a few months ago, I more than likely won't be picking up the 2018 model. Last year's Mac is doing everything I need it to do so far. I mostly use it for illustration and storyboards and a bit of video editing, but nothing super intensive.

Thanks for the practical tips on this! Its a breath of fresh air to hear someone who doesn't rag on the 2018 models. I bought the 2016 model and its still going strong, so I'll sit with it for a while longer. My keyboard hasn't gone out either and I've used it profusely. so, when my 1rst gen butterfly switches finally go out I'll probably upgrade then. haha, and I'll still sell this one off before upgrading.
